World Cancer Congress
On November 3, 2016, Ella Forbes-Chilibeck presented at the World Cancer Congress in Paris. The World Cancer Congress is run by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and takes place every two years in a different country, always hosted by a UICC member organization. The conference is aligned with UICC's purpose statement of uniting the cancer community, to reduce the global cancer burden, to promote greater equity and to integrate cancer into the world's health and development agenda.
Ella’s presentation focused on the current experience of Canadian cancer survivors when returning to work following a period of cancer treatment or disability leave. The programme was well received and the international audience was interested in the work being done in Canada aimed at increasing the likelihood of a successful return to work and positive and progressive management the transition from ‘patient’ to ‘survivor’.
This global conference represents a unique opportunity for the global cancer and wider health community to network, learn, develop meaningful collaborations and drive change together. The 2016 World Cancer Congress theme, ’Mobilising action - Inspiring change’, provided an opportune platform for Congress delegates to build on this momentum and continue to expand their scope of influence and action for the successful implementation of these global commitments in their own settings.
